"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Is J.Crew not making Collection anymore? How sad. It was my favorite...seeing the pictures online and on the style guide. It was very editorial. *sigh* 😞.

  2. Vent and love:

A shirt I bought and wore/washed only once started to have a seam unravel. This shouldn't happen to such a new shirt.

But they're crediting me the original cost and replacing the shirt at the price I paid if I choose to reorder it.

Customer service was really good about it. I just wish this kind of thing didn't need to be addressed in the first place.

  3. Items that were just released yesterday are already on "promo" pricing and showing up in the sale section...30% off...so of course the code doesn't work. What's the point? Have a code, keep it full price, or do the promotional pricing with no code. And keep them out of the sale section - it makes it too confusing if you're not applying the extra 30% off sale.

    1. I don't understand the promo ... items ending in .99 apply, but not .50? Even though it's all in the sales section and the fine print says it applies to the sales section?

    2. I also don't understand the promo. Plus, J Crew continues to send me an email with a "special" 30% off code that also doesn't work on anything in my cart. Just stop already with the useless emails and promotions. They're just p*ssing off customers.

    3. I am going to sit this promo out,...waiting until next roll out...

    4. Yes I was wondering why the eyelet funnelneck top was in sale but the additional % was not coming off. Doesn't make sense.

    5. I don’t understand any of the pricing games Jcrew is playing these days. Some fairly new spring items are already marked down with substantial discounts while older items from years ago linger with minimal markdowns.

    7. Right, .50 are promo pricing. But isn’t a sale still on sale at the end of the day? Something being marked down is the same as being discounted is the same as being on clearance, no? At least from a customer viewpoint, I mean.

  4. The rattan purses trend drives me nuts. How that can be a trend?! It's like cold shoulder sweaters. I hope it will die fast. I also hope JCrew will stop on one purse.

    1. I have two I bought and never used from the last time this trend went around. They’re very cute but pretty impractical, at least for me.

    2. When I search Anthropologie by word 'straw' I'm getting like 30 purses. All looking appropriate for an outfit with a fruit bowl used for a hat. I hope JCrew will not go that way.

    3. @Natalya great statement! Hate to disappoint you but not only is rattan/straw a trend everywhere but fruit patterns as well. Oh and one more thing, large floral patterns; Dolce and Gabbana for example. I have seen this happening here in Monaco. Not limited to Jcrew.

    4. I might be Ok with floral prints. If they are not too busy or overwhelming I can do prints.

  5. Not a vent, but I find it's interesting that these are the same skirts. However, the new one doesn't appear to have the leather trim. Oh, and the belt is different on the new version too.

    Old version - Item #G8505

    New version - Item #J3955

  6. I canceled an order on a pair of shoes because the customer service rep said they “weren’t in the sale section” even though they are located in the women’s sale section online which is how I purchased them. I found it off-putting to be told that (if they’re not on sale then remove them from the sale portion of your website or be clearer about this new .99 cent category and make it super sale with a gimmicky graphic design) and am over the pricing games and promos. I am also frustrated with the inconsistent price adjustment policies which is how this cancellation came about. Another order of mine last night was given a PA for the 30% off sale despite the fact the item didn’t end in $0.99 and when I requested one for the order today it was denied because of the “not being on sale” reason. I took a break from J. Crew over the winter and all of this hoopla is not making me miss it.

    1. A week ago I ordered the bandana Tippi and when the promo showed up on sale items, I asked for for a PA. I was told they couldn’t do it because it wasn’t actually on sale even though it ended with .99. Then later that day I reordered it with the promo code which applied. Today I went to return both and was refunded the lower sales price. When I pointed out I never got a PA on the earlier Tippi, I was told that I did in fact get a PA after all and therefore my refund price was the lower price. My credit card hasn’t reflected a PA for that amount yet so I have no idea who’s telling the truth. I really hate how these pricing games - they’re exhausting to play.

  7. Received three pair of Slim fit stretch chinos for Hubs. He asked for navy and khaki, and I snuck the green ones ion the order. Ends up the khaki pair fit nothing like the other two, despite identical tagging. They are baggy in the leg like old-guy pants. But not the waist, so it is not a mislabeled size. That said he really likes the green (!of course!) and the navy. They are not a super-slim fit, but good for work this summer with a polo or a button-down.
