First Look at J.Crew’s Fall 2013 Collection

"Thanks!" to knityarns (in this post), as well as Shopaholic (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew's Fall 2013 Ready-to-Wear show is slated for sometime this morning.

Over at J.Crew's Facebook page, they posted some exclusive first looks of the upcoming Fall Collection.

Link Time! NowFashion (click here) has already posted their pictures of the *entire* J.Crew Fall 2013 Collection (both Men & Women). Make sure to check this link out! The images below come from NowFashion.

Shopaholic (in this post) also let us know that Glamour (click HERE), as well as Instagram (click HERE) already has several pictures up to view right now. All the images below come from Glamour's post.

I still can't get over how forward the fashion world is with their collections! I can barely bring myself to think about wearing Spring clothes, let alone what next Fall will bring in terms of styles.

P.S. Is anyone else crushing on the heather purple and maroon blazers with contrast piping for Women? Loves it already!

P.S.S. Did anyone catch that embellished maroon baseball cap on one of the Women models? Is J.Crew going to offer it in retail stores? I don't know if I love it or hate it yet. There is something about it...

What are your thoughts on the items slated for the upcoming Fall season? Are you a fan of the overall collection? Are there certain pieces you are really excited (or questioning) about? ;)

  1. Yipes - the hummingbird dress is already sold out! I wanted one but thought it was still on preview. What a gorgeous dress! The best dress I have seen out of J Crew in years.

Do you 'spose that they were all scooped up by ebay re-sellers?

    1. Cousy: I suspect they made that dress in a limited quantity and did not realize how popular it would be. If they are smart, they will re-order more from their manufacturer and fast! :)

    2. I got one (there were 4 in each size) but I already returned it. It fit well (not short) but it needed an occasion that I don't have. Also the color wasn't very flattering on me and for $500 one has to love!
I will post pics soon but I tried it yesterday night and I didn't feel like trying it again in natural light so the colors are a bit dimmed.

    3. I got one...in 00. It arrived yesterday and I am going to try it on ASAP. It is a lot more than I usually spend but I had to try it...my heart skipped when I saw the shorts but toes would not have been practical at all. I worry that it will be too long on me...and with that print it cannot be shortened.

If I return it, I will post in case anyone wants it.

  2. This makes me want to run for the hills lol! Nothing here appeals to me. It looks dreary and disjointed and a little bit crazy.

    1. I agree Cate, the camel coat with the sequin trim is destined for huge markdown and Final Sale.

  3. What is happening to that poor model's hair, in the second to last picture? (jewel-tone sweater, on the right) Someone please help her!

  4. Also, Alexis, that maroon blazer is the only thing I like, but maroon is not my color so wallet is safe! :)

  5. Lovely! I re-pinned all the photos to my Pinterest board! :)

  6. [sigh]...only one full-length trouser pant previewed for women (other than those bunched up tapered sweatpant-things)... I guess we are destined for another fall/winter with nothing but capris on offer.

    1. Insane! Can we see some full length pants? I feel like its more of the same old accross the board. I am not tempted at all.

  7. The sweaters and tops are intriguing, but like Cass I am taken aback by JC's obsession with capri's at the expense of real pants.

Capri's are not universally flattering (for curvy bodies), appropriate (professionally) or practical (for New Englanders). But I must be wrong because JC has been selling capri's almost exclusively for about 2 years.

    1. JC has normal pants too...

Never got the capri =/= professional thing. I mean, if it's a length issue, then suit skirts are inappropriate as well, yet they're allowed, despite being much shorter than capris.

      Delete
    2. Most of the normal pants are casual chinos, cords or jeans. This is fine if you're a college student, but those of us who work in the professional world want more options.

Should people wear bermuda shorts to work because they are longer than some work skirts/dresses? I think capris are considered casual because they are associated with beach/vacation wear (unlike suit skirts). Even if the fabric is dressy, the connotation from the cropped pants makes it so that they don't fly in most professional environments.

  8. I really love a few pieces here and there at J.Crew now but I don't think I'll love another collection(s) as much as I loved their fall 2010 stuff. Sighhhh <3

  10. When are they going to figure out that the models would look much better if someone ran a brush through their hair? So over the bedhead! Aside from that nothing is standing out...the two tone biennial looks interesting and the white cowl neck sweater looks cozy...maybe I'll change my mind when I see a catalog.

  11. I am glad to see some menswear inspired blazer coat(medium length) on display, should be a fun change to a typical work coat

  12. LOVING the purple blazer with the piping and red collar! That may be a must-have for me.

  13. Even the models look disgusted with what they're wearing. And the male models are all 12 year old hipster doofus's.

There are a few skirts that I might like (but they are probably at crazy "collection" prices) and other than that, I find it very blech.

Sob - J.Crew, I miss the old you. Maybe it's me that's old, but as a long time loyal customer it makes me sad.

  14. J.Crew is like BCBG. The fashion week pieces are always very weird, while the "regular line" gets a pass. It's the whole "one is for show, another for consumers" thing.

    ReplyDelete
  15. those models look more jet-lagged than I feel. significant difference: I have looked like that fairly often, but never on purpose. so now I'm thinking: did someone get paid for making them look like that or did they all just fly back coach from a private party in Siberia?

  16. Overall I'm loving the rich colors in the jackets and some of the prints. Hopefully they will filter down into some non-runway cardis, sweaters and wearable pieces. Also, some decent length skirts and some A-lines. Disappointed with the virtual monopoly of capri pants. Even below the Mason Dixon line they stay in my closet until April.

  17. On the capri thing: They can work in the winter if you wear them as skinny pants/leggings, tucked into boots. I do that with my Minnies all the time. Minnies and big, long sweaters are a winter staple for me.

  18. Some pieces are okay. Unlike others, I quite like the capris, even though I'm in the cold north (Canada). I can't wear shoes outside in the winter anyway, so changing into pumps at the office is no big deal for me and I like the pump and capri look. What I do have a problem with, however, is that the heels on all of those beautiful shoes are just so darn high!!! I couldn't walk in those, nevermind wear them all day!

    1. I also do the year round capri in Minnesota. Also I really like that capris work with any heel height or flats! With my full length pants the heel height I need can vary so I am sometimes stuck because the shoes I want to wear are either too high or too low.

    2. Also a fan of capris and there are some pretty ones in these outfits.

  19. Some of the pieces are lovely, and there is a nice spectrum of fabric. I think I am ready to witness the departure of neon hues...

  20. It's hit and miss but I'm a big lover of capri pants so I'm glad to see they continue to be a J. Crew staple. (I wear capris year round in Minnesota - I wear boots to the office and change into my regular shoes when I arrive.) I think they are office appropriate when styled with nice sweaters, blazers, etc. I think that the jacquard capris in look #38 and #45 look fabulous. I also really like the print on the shell in look #30 and the sweater in #32.

  21. I'm sure I'll love many of the pieces here when they hit stores, but I'm really surprised by how derivative the styling of the show feels to me. Usually I can count on J.Crew to have its own take. Here I'm seeing distinct notes of Celine, Libertine and Ruffian that strike me as kind off for the Crewmeisters.

That said, I love the looks in photo #5 (especially the purple tone-on-tone ensemble) as well as the red piped blazer (echoes of the Bella?), shorts and floral blouse look.

  22. I'm so glad that capris work for many of the above posters. I didn't intend to slam capris: on folks for whom they are flattering and on occasions for which they are appropriate, I think they are fabulous. (I love the bazaar print capris in the most recent rollout and I think they would make for a great party outfit!)

I think the rest of us are just wanting some options and variety in the pants that JC carries. It feels like a hole in their offerings.

    1. I do agree, cousy, that pants are lacking in their collection. I love the bistretch wool Minnies--and own four pairs (which I do wear to the office in the winter in Iowa). However, I constantly am looking for full-length trousers or slim-leg pants (similar to the Banana Republic skinny Martin) in rich, interesting colors/patterns, and J. Crew just doesn't seem to offer them!

  23. I love love LOVE all this stuff. I enjoy how JCrew's taking risks and making quirky stuff affordable. I could imagine wearing any of those outfits!

  24. Interesting to see what will be offered in the fall of 2013 while this current fall/winter is still very fresh in our minds and closets.

Several items from this season are carried forward, but there are very sharp items to look forward to next fall. The Ludlow looks to be moving into some browns and more heavily patterned plaids. Strong blues are still present along with this season's very popular purple/burgundy.

I'm ready for spring but seeing what's headed our way for fall/winter I'm very pleased with J.Crew.

  25. Somebody should have put down their Bedazzler before showing the coat in the last picture. ... Intrigued by second-to-last photo of blue geometric dress with matching elbow-length gloves, but I suspect the dress will be made of synthetic material & the gloves probably won't make it into production.

Also: I'm going to have forgotten all of this by the time it's actually fall 2013.

  26. Are those blazers the tipped Hacking jackets?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Is it just me, or do all the male models look like their feet are unusually long? My teenage sons got a big laugh out of looking at the menswear section. I'm not sure who it is supposed to be aimed at.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well.... Fall 2013
    - looks like long gloves are in
    - large jewelery and not just necklaces/huge earings
    - capris again ( I like capris I just hate the low fit of J crews )
    - baseball caps in animal print and another in sequins ( definitely not for me )
    - embellishment on collars of coats ( not just collars of blouses )
    - more brocade like fabric ( some may call it curtain or home/furnishing fabric
-more of the same pattern mixing we have seen before..
to me all there pieces look collection geared so I should not really be concerned that I only liked the sweatpants.
Thank for listening. Carolyn from Vancouver

  29. I love it all. :-) hopefully the fact that no one else does will mean lots of sales, and another December with 25% off promos. :-p

  30. To Roxy above-can you elaborate? Maybe do a blog post with visuals? The fashion nerd in me is intrigued!!!

  31. I see some lovely fabrics and prints. I'm a bit in love with the skirt that is worn by the model in the leopard print baseball cap (and I also now want - a leopard print baseball cap!).

Unfortunately, it is likely that the really interesting fabrics will be collection only, which JCrew doesn't tend to take up to a size 14, so no beautiful skirt fabrics for me.

But my thinner sisters can enjoy them for me!

  32. There were a few solid pieces that I love.

-The all black top/slacks worn with a wooly black/white coat and gray mid-heel pump

-The lime green/black geometric knit sweater and skirt

-The embellished navy blouse worn with a metallic mini bell shape skirt, a wool varsity jacket and royal blue heels.

-The oxblood suede heels that ties up to the ankles. To Die!

  33. Slightly OT, but it seems that London will be getting its first J Crew store later this year. Super exciting! I'm often there to visit family so can't wait.

  34. I like the rich dark colors and several of the looks even if I could not pull them off. But there are very few individual pieces that I would even consider at this point. I blogged about my impressions HERE.
