Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new SUMMER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  5. I went yesterday instead of this weekend! Post with reviews/pics here here. Items include colorblock pullover, linen bow shorts, shortsleeve sweatshirt, Angular Eyelet top, and the in-store only boy shirt in polka dot.

  6. I just have a return to make. Unless there is something really great on sale or new to look at, I've pretty much run the gamut of what is in the store now. Hopefully something new will peak my interest!

  8. I swung by the Copley location in Boston yesterday. The store's still running its 30% off final sale promotion. I got the pleated blouson dress for $60. It's on sale online right now for 169.99 but in store it is 99.99. I got the 30% off and I also used my student discount. Not bad.

    1. Wow, so jealous! I wish my store carried collection items. That is a great score on the blouson dress. Since it's all poly, that's about all it's worth...

    2. Doh! That reminds me I forgot to use my student discount the last couple times I went. The pleated blouson dress available in wild peony several sizes at Georgetown, but I swear it was marked $169 there.

  9. I have to make a return, so likely yes.

BTW, if anyone sees a striped painter tee in the white with tan stripes in their store (in XS, S or M), would love it if you could please let me know! Thanks!

  11. MS, why don't you have the b&m order the short-sleeved sweatshirt if they still have your size online? They should be able to price match the in-store price. Not sure what size you need, but the Charleston, SC, b&m had 2 XL on Tuesday.

  13. Although it's unlikely I'll pair full price for them, I absolutely love the new red color of the Toothpick Ankle jeans and they look great paired with the new polka dot button down (don't see it on the website yet). So I might stop in and stare at these pieces for a while. The shirt is exactly what I wanted last year's polka dot perfect shirt to be--but it was silky, not heavier cotton like this new one is.

    1. What color is the new polka dot? And is it a popover or button up? Thx! I have last years silk version and prefer cotton or Oxford cloth. Thx!

    2. If it's the same one I tried on yesterday, the polka dot top is white with black/navy (can't remember which) smaller dots. The fabric is thicker cotton and it is a button-up. I wasn't a fan of it personally, but hope you will like it! You can see pics of it here (scroll down to very bottom of post for close-up pic of design). HTH!

  22. Slightly OT question. I was just cruising EBay and noticed that there are tons of Bubble necklaces going for under $20. I assume that these are knock-offs, but I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge of/experience with these?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I have one turquoise and one yellow from 2 different eBay sellers. Both I got for under $20. For what I paid, I am VERY happy with the quality of both. I'm sure they are knock-offs, but I'm not willing to pay $100+ for what is essentially costume jewelry. The eBay versions are a great way to try out a trend for less $! HTH! :)

      Delete
    2. I agree with AppGal. I have turquoise and the metal on mine is a little more matte, and the little metal things that hold the round baubles on the bottom are slightly different. But let's face it, the J.Crew version is cheap plastic and metal from China too, so what's the difference? I can't imagine why anyone would ever pay $150 for a plastic necklace, but then again, I'm cheap. I would much rather pay $17.

I am waiting for my new hot pink and kelly green knockoff bubble necklaces to arrive... hope they are as good as the turquoise one!

      Delete
    3. I ordered an eBay knockoff for about $15 as well and while it is perfectly adequate, I don't wear it. There's something about knockoffs that just bothers me too much...it would be one thing to just copy the design, but to actually try to pass it off as made by J. Crew really grates at me. I'm not saying the real bubble necklace is necessarily worth $150, but I just don't like fakes. I think this comes from years of reading the Purse Forum which has made me very sensitive to this issue.

I love that there are a lot of bubble necklace alternatives out there that are cheaper, but I would prefer to buy an "inspired" necklace from Etsy (another alternative) rather than a fake from eBay.

I have given the $15 necklace to my 2-year-old and he likes to play dress up in "his necklace." I must say, it does suit him!

      Delete
    4. I thought about getting those fakes on eBay too (prices are amazing!) but I read a great article (can't seem to find it now) about how counterfeit items (including jewelry) help fund money to not-so-nice individuals (including terrorists- who knew criminals diversified so much!), in addition to using metals/ chemicals that can be dangerous.

I did see some Etsy sellers in the US who make similar versions and those seem pretty good alternatives.

But there is some hope for the real ones- J.Crew can be affordable if you wait it out a bit. I waited to get the red bubble necklace from J.Crew on uber-sale for $50 and I got the citrus lime for $75. Not bad prices! :)

      Delete
    5. Alexis-did you buy the red bubble necklace recently or has it been a while? I'd love to find a red one :)

      Delete
    6. Alexis: you're absolutely right about the article which I can't find either, but CNBC did a special in 2011 about dangerous counterfeit items. Here is the link to their story: http://www.cnbc.com/id/37824347/ HTH!

      Delete
    7. ObsessedWShopping: The red was only available for the holidays and I bought it during one of the post-holiday sales. I am surprised J.Crew has not brought it back because it is such a versatile shade.

Rynetta PhD: Great link- I just checked it out! After reading (& watching) about counterfeits- you never look at them the same way again. (I remember reading that even the people selling them on the streets, like in NYC or Paris, might be force to or mistreated.)

      Delete
    8. Amelia, I have two of the ebay Bubble Necklaces, one turquoise and one black. Purely from a product standpoint, they are okay quality and I am very pleased with them for the $20 price.

I do completely respect the POV about avoiding counterfeit goods; I saw that piece on CNBC last year. I would never feel comfortable buying an obvious designer counterfeit bag i.e. Louis Vuitton. Maybe this is just my own lame justification of my purchases, but I believe the majority of plastic costume jewelry, even the "real" Bubble Necklace, comes from a similar Asian supply chain using similar labor. Pretty much everything is made in China these days .. even the US Olympic Team's quintessentially American-branded Ralph Lauren uniforms!

I was careful to buy from a reputable seller (as far as one can tell on ebay, anyway) and personally I am okay with it, with the thinking that the impact of these two fashion purchases probably aren't much different from most of my other ones.

      Delete
    9. If you decide to purchase from Ebay, the first thing you should do is check the sellers feedback. The second thing ( I do) is filter out all the sellers outside of the US. I hope this helps.

      Delete
    10. I agree w/ruffles. I think some of it is the same labor. I would even guess in some cases it is the same factories for the real and the 'fake.' Some of the ones on Etsy are shipping from China as well, so if you care about that then be sure to read before buying.

  23. Hi-

Quick review about the white sequin jacket.....

I was debating whether to get a 0/00 and ordered both. I usually wear a 00 in J.crew. I am 5'7, 116lbs with a smaller top then bottom, etc.

I received the 0 yesterday but not the 00 and I must say I was surprised at how fitted the 0 was. I was able to wear a thicker jean shirt under (and still zip), but the length (up to my hip bone) and the fit is perfect. Like I said the 00 has not yet arrived, but I would say that the sizing on this is TTS or a bit on the fitted side if layering underneath.

Also, it's a nice jacket but can look too Liberaceish iF paired with something too dressy (think like a fancy dress) so it is wish to dress the jacket down a bit. I tried it with a pair of denim shorts, a red silk cami and some nude braided heels and I thought it looked really cool.

  24. Question: I noticed that the medallion paisley skirt has popped back up online in my size, but $79.99 seems like too much. I also know that this skirt is long gone from my stores. If I go into a b&m, can they look up how much the skirt WOULD be in store, and then order it from online for that price? Is this a red phone situation?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes, if they are willing to do it they can. I think there must at least be one in a store somewhere though otherwise it won't come up.

    2. Success! Skirt was finally located for a substantially lower price than the $79.99 online.

  25. @ AppGal (sorry it wouldn't let me reply directly) - Thank you so much. I was definitely worried about the quality but, like you, unwilling to pay so much for a necklace I'm not sure I'll wear a lot. I'm glad to hear that yours are working out for you. Enjoy them in good health!

  26. Does anyone have experience with the no.. 2 cotton pencil skirts stretching out? I am a bit in between sizes but am afraid to go a size down and look like a stuff sausage. On the other hand, don't want to go a size up and be yanking my skirt up all day. Thoughts appreciated!

    1. Hello...I usually size down in the no. 2 pencil skirt because I have found that it stretches out as I wear it during the day. Hope this helps! :)

    2. Ditto, the cotton skirts I'm a size smaller than with the wool skirts b/c of the stretching.

    3. I agree with A Sister Thing and teeny84. In JC #2s I am a 00 in the waist and closer to a 0 in the hips. I go with a 0 in wool, but size down in the double serge cotton. IMO the paisley (feather, paisley, and raj) skirts tend to have less give than the solid double serge cotton.

  33. Amelia.....About ebay bubble necklaces...sorry REPLY never works for me. I own 4 "real" J. Crew bubbles and 2 from ebay China sellers. I have yellow and bright blue from ebay sellers. In my opinion they are the same as the J. Crew bubbles. They weigh the same, use the same chain, clasps, metal parts and plastic parts. I've worn my ebay bubbles into J. Crew stores and SA's have given me compliments on my "J. Crew" bubble necklaces. I just say "thank you!". Both J. Crew and the ebay ones are made in factories in China, so I'm not sure what the difference is. I believe these necklaces are worth what these sellers are selling them for. In my case I paid $14.95 shipped. I love J. Crew, but when I compare the necklaces I don't see the justification of charging $135.00 more than I paid. Yep....$14.95 SHIPPED from China and I received them in 12 days and very well wrapped. Personally I think J. Crew's bubbles and these ebay seller bubbles come from the same factory. And for the record, I've never owned or purchased a fake handbag, wallet, or any of the other stuff you can buy on every street in every major city. Besides the obvious, knock offs look like crap. These bubble necklaces look like the real thing to me. And the Etsy seller making the same bubble necklaces...where do you think they get their parts to make those necklaces? It all comes from the same Chinese factories. Even if your heart is in the right place, you just can't get around that fact.

  34. I stopped by today as I haven't been in two weeks ( a lifetime for me). I found the Seersucker Cafe Capri Pants for $39.99 plus 30% off. I also bought the Pleated Skirt in Awning Stripe as it is just absolutely adorable. It's still FP on the store but my PS honored the sale price plus the discount. I also grabbed two patent skinny belts and the Havana Clutch in Navy Stripe ($49.99).

They are slowly getting in a few Fall items and the store will be stocked by the 27th. My store is carrying Cashmere again and the colors are very saturated but I just couldn't bring myself to try any on. It's way too hot.

  36. One more thing about the ebay bubble necklaces. You may see sellers saying "American Seller!". Ummm....this just means they have bought those ebay China made bubble necklaces and are reselling them with an inflated price. They will get sellers who are afraid to deal with a foreign seller or worried about the shipping, etc. But these are the same necklaces. All these listings will all say, NWOT...new without tags. Just an FYI. Also when looking at the seller, check feedback. I actually read the feedback. Many times the seller will have less that 100% due to people thinking they are buying a REAL J. Crew necklace from a REAL J. Crew store. Then when they realize it's not, they leave negative feedback. Come on... Really? A REAL J. Crew bubble necklace for 15 bucks?? I'm not sure what these folks were thinking. Anyway....Just a heads up if you're thinking of getting buying a ebay bubble necklace!

CS contacted the warehouse for me, and an employee from the warehouse, whose job is specifically to handle damages with Ups, contacted me and sent me the sandals (the damaged item), for my review, with the option of keeping them. The items in the shipment were not damaged but something happened where the box was damaged so Ups has a policy to return it to the shipper. You should call cs again and explain the situation, and ask if you can speak to the warehouse, etc.

    6. I really wish the SA had told me about the extra 20% when I was buying stuff at 2pm - would have put it on hold and gone back!

    7. Ack, you guys are killing me with the talk about the extra 50% off in the Yorkdale store. I can't make it there this weekend, which is probably a good thing - I have spent waaaaay too much money at the Crew this past month. Must stop!!

  45. More bubble talk. You can buy a "bib statement necklace" for $24.99 on Very Jane. I haven't shopped that deal site before. It looks like the seller hand makes these in Utah. Her Etsy shop is here. I haven't purchased from her. Just sharing info I came across.

    4. I have purchased 3 of the bubble necklaces from that Etsy store -- yellow, turquoise, and red. Pleased with all of them in terms of quality and price. Shipping was also reasonably fast.

The yellow one, though, the smaller round beads are not *exactly* the same color as the large flat beads. It's not enough different as to really bother me, but it might bother some people. No color matching problems with either the turquoise or the red.

    5. GigiofCA -- thanks for the tip on the Etsy seller with the bib bubble necklaces. I just made a purchase (actually my very first Etsy purchase!) The photos of the necklaces look amazing and I hope they are just as nice in person.

    6. Janet - On my grey retail bubble necklace, the smaller beads are a different shade than the main grey beads. I think it's a design choice. It seems w/the newer releases of the retail bubble necklace, all of the beads are the same color.

TC - Her necklaces look great. I hope they're good! :)

    7. Thanks, Gigi - her necklaces do look great and she gets great reviews! I would feel a little better about ordering from her than giving out my info for an eBay China version... although I have friends who are perfectly happy with their eBay bubble necklaces. Guess I'm just a bigger fan of Etsy! ;)

    8. I purchased a bubble necklace recently from the BlueBird Bridal Etsy shop - the crafter, Diana, is in New York state. I have been extremely pleased with her work and they are virtually identical to the real thing. $34 but she has a special running right now. Shipping very cheap to Canada.

    9. Gigi -- I think that you're right that it's a design choice on the grey necklace. I'm not sure it's purposeful on the yellow one because the colors are too close to be obviously different (if that makes sense), and the difference was not obvious in the photographs on the website (at least not on my screen). You can only really tell the difference in natural light. Like I said though, I really love the necklace nonetheless, and would overall completely recommend her Etsy shop!!

  47. Just did some damage at the JCrew at Tysons Corner Galleria in VA. They have a ton of the plaid boucle tweed jacket in the pink/orange color. It's priced at $119 with the additional 30% off. They also have a good amount of other sale items including the black print Monas, fuchsia cafe capris, havana clutches. I also picked up the filagree embroidered jacket - which that have a few more of - all size 4 though. Hope this info helps!

  50. To all of you that ordered the Kimono Sleeve maxi dress.....would you give us a review on how it fits? Please include if it fits TTS per J. Crew items and how tall you are. I looked at it and thought....well, I don't think you could wear a bra. Can you wear a bra with it? It looks very low cut. Then I wondered if it would drag on the ground....I'm 5'9". Thanks so much for your help!

    1. straycat - Andrea has irl pics in this post on her blog, Life's Divine. I recvd mine and tried it on. I was able to wear a bra with it (34C). I thought it read slightly off/white and black, but it's definitely white and black. I wasn't impressed with it on me.

    2. Hi straycat,

I purchased the kimono sleeve maxi in the latest 30% off sale promotion.
      Pics up on my blog.

      For me, it's a keeper.
That being said - some things I noticed:
-it was probably made for someone who is 5'8" (I am 5'10" and like to wear heels so I will probably lengthen it with a panel of either black or white jersey)
-the material has a lot of weight, so the front and back V's get lower as the day progresses (although it was never inappropriate). Just to be sure I pinned the dress to the back of my bra. The front of my bra was always covered.
-I ordered a small, but I think an extra small would have been better. I would say it is slightly larger than normal - although it's not horribly oversized. I am keeping the small.

I am wearing it in my newest blog post.

  52. Went back to Columbus Circle yesterday. There are some things in the sale section that weren't there before, like a whole slew of toothpick jeans (FINALLY got those ankle-zip ones in ancient fig in a size that fits me, for only $27!! It's seriously been a huge back-and-forth with the catalog trying to get me the right size-- I ended up with a 31 when I wear a 4 or 6 in skirts and shorts, but I digress).
Also, there was ONE pair of Lucca sandals, size 9.5 in heritage green for only $69.99 before the extra 30%, which they are still honoring. I was soo tempted to get them (the suede is soo soft and I love the Luccas), but I've spent so much money at the Crew lately and I'm not sure what I'd even wear them with. Hopefully one of you JCAs might swoop them up..? They also have the printed Viv flats, which are super cute.

One more thing-- I saw some Bromptons there in a deep blue-green color that isn't (yet?) available online. Very nice color. =)

  58. Just returned from the B & M....not much left, really picked over. I did come home with the Linen School Boy blazer in Cerise. I had the white one, but it was just boring on me. I love the Cerise color and have alot of it, so of course I love this blazer. Also picked up the Jenna link bracelet. The SA was wearing it and it was so cute....well, I'm an easy sell. I'm thrilled to death to report I found a two piece swimsuit I actually think looks good on me! Land's End is having a big clearance and I got a turquoise 2-piece and an additional yellow/white polka dot top to wear with the turqouise bottom. All three pieces came in $10.00 bucks less than the original price of just one piece. Yah! Also picked up a necklace I've been stalking at Ann Taylor. The Neon Lights necklace in the yellowy green color. It's now $39.99 in stores. Comes in pretty pink and teal too. Regular price $88.00. So that's my shopping report for today!

  66. (Reply not working for me) The new NY Americana Manhasset store sale section was downstairs to the left behind register area. It wasn't to par but FYI: they had a bunch of porcelain paisley dresses and the skirts (sz 6,10 or 12?), some purple & striped silk tie blouses, sz xl of anchor sequin tank, citron pom pom, lots of various T's and an odd array of dresses including maxi's. also, the shoe section was large, but stock was out for anything I asked about and sale shoes were not marked. The SA's were difficult to get a hold of for try ons. They had a nice Mens section & crewcuts department :).

  74. Shopping Celle....I think you (and I) are lucky to find the bracelet. I've been trying to find it off and on for weeks. It would popup on the site, but I couldn't put it in my cart. I'd just get a message saying my request wasn't possible. Then it would disappear. I called CS and they told me it was completely sold out. Then I called stores rumored to have it with no luck...it was just gone. So on a fluke I emailed my VPS and he wrote back and said he surprisingly found one in each color! I was amazed! So I have both coming....greedy me. I have a bad "jool" addiction and will most likely keep both if I love it. I've never even seen it in person. I saw this morning that the turquoise/green Frog necklace is gone from the site. Guess that means it's sold out. I'm thinking none of this style will make it to sale.
